Urban-architectural vision
Our design takes inspiration from the Old Town, creating a contemporary interpretation of the historic urban structure. It recreates the interwoven network of streets, squares, parks and courtyards to create a vibrant, pedestrian-oriented environment.
A new terminal building extends the historic Stoties Street route creating an iconic new connection to the city’s southern districts and a world-class arrival point for the new high-speed Rail Baltica line.
The new terminal does not try to compete architecturally, but follows the language of the existing station to create a complimentary new form. The angular roof is generated from the various pitches found in the historic building to form a harmonious connection when viewed from Stoties Square.
Central to the terminal is a large wintergarden inspired by the botanical garden in the original Station Square. This transforms the station into a unique new public space and creates a dramatic first impression for arriving passengers.
